Welcome to The Seahorse

From our waterside dining room on the River Dart, The Seahorse is built on the belief that exceptional ingredients need little else to justify a long lunch or a second bottle.

Fresh fish arrives from Brixham each morning and shapes everything that follows… seafood at its finest alongside the flavours of the Mediterranean and the best the season offers us from land and sea.

Since 2008, The Seahorse has been a place to gather. Families, friends, locals and travellers all find their way for slow afternoons, lively suppers, and evenings that have a habit of ending in Joe's Bar.

Your table by the river is waiting.

Our spaces

Main Restaurant

Our menu changes daily, shaped by what lands at Brixham market that morning and what looks most exquisite on the day. Daily deliveries mean the fish travels just a few miles to reach the table, where it’s cooked with charcoal, expertise, and little else asked of an ingredient that needs little improvement.

Joe’s Bar

Joe’s Bar sits just behind the main dining room; a softly lit, Venetian‑inspired bar at the heart of the building. You’re always welcome just for a drink – whether it’s an aperitivo before dinner, a nightcap after, or simply cocktails by the river under our late licence.

The Cantina

Our private dining space, perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, celebrations, or simply gathering friends around a long table with good wine and no rush.  Ben's menus are seasonal, Italian in spirit, and built for exactly this kind of evening.

There is always something on the calendar at The Seahorse.

From guest chef residencies and seafood suppers to our winter Wine Club and Dartmouth Food Festival.

Fresh fish lands just along the coast, in Brixham, each morning, and our menu follows the market’s lead. We take fabulous ingredients and transform them into something very special.

Twinned in spirit with Trattoria al Gatto Nero

The Seahorse is connected by a shared love of the sea and family-style dining. We’re twinned in spirit with Trattoria al Gatto Nero - the beloved seafood restaurant on the Venetian island of Burano owned by Ruggero and Lucia Bovo. The two families are regularly in each other's kitchens and dining rooms, a friendship as natural as the food that sustains it.

If you enjoy good food, wine and stories from our table by the river, our newsletter is the best way to stay in touch.

You’ll hear first about guest chef dinners, wine club nights, festival events and special menus, plus a few behind‑the‑scenes moments from the kitchen and dining room.
